Levine: Castro Loses Best Friends, Relative In Car Accident
By Bruce Levine--
(CBS) -- Cubs All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro will miss an undisclosed period of time as he addresses the personal tragedy of losing a relative and three of his best friends due to an auto accident in the Dominican Republic.
Castro's relative and friends were going fishing with Castro's brother, who was driving in a different vehicle, when a truck trailer wiped out the car carrying the four men. Castro will leave Chicago for the funerals and miss Thursday's make-up game and regularly scheduled game against the Giants, according to a friend of the players.
The Cubs aren't commenting publicly on the reason Castro didn't play other than to say he is dealing with a personal matter.
Baseball has a seven-day bereavement list that Castro most likely will be eligible for.
