Levine: Abreu On Pace To Return Monday

By Bruce Levine-

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The White Sox are hopeful that rookie first baseman Jose Abreu will return to the lineup Monday. Abreu hasn't played since tweaking his left ankle on May 17.

The 27-year-old Cuban defector was leading the major leagues with 15 home runs and 42 RBIs when he was placed on the disabled list on May 18.

Abreu has been going through rehab with different braces in order to temper the soreness in his ankle. Manager Robin Ventura said that the goal is to bring back Abreu back as a full-time first baseman.

No minor league rehab stint is planned at this time. Abreu has been going through hitting and agility drills since Monday with the team's coaches and medical staff.

The White Sox start a series in Los Angeles on Monday against the Dodgers, and National League rules will prohibit the use of the DH.
