Len Kasper Talks About The Coming Cubs Season
CHICAGO (WSCR) -- The baseball season is fast approaching, and WGN-TV and Comcast SportsNet Cubs play-by-play announcer Len Kasper is talking about what to expect.
Kasper talked with WSCR-670 The Score's Hub Arkush about the offseason, which brought veteran Carlos Pena and star pitcher Kerry Wood to the team. Wood, of course, is remembered as one of the most celebrated and admired Cubs pitchers of recent decades.
Wood settled for $1.5 million to return to the Cubs. While he could have gotten $5 million or $6 million elsewhere, he wanted to return home, Kasper said.
Meanwhile, while many Cubs fans were disappointed that Ryne Sandberg wasn't the team's choice for manager after Lou Piniella left, Mike Quade has earned the position and his efforts already have been paying off.
"I think Mike Quade deserved this opportunity. I know a lot of people were disappointed Ryno didn't get a chance to manage this team," Kasper said. "He may down the road get that opportunity, but in terms of managerial experience, Mike Quade earned it, and based on what he did late last year and what he's already done early here on in spring training, I think he's very, very well-prepared."
