Lawsuit: School Failed To Stop Violent Bully
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A local elementary school student's father is suing Chicago Public Schools because, he says, faculty failed to keep his son safe from a bully.
As WBBM Newsradio's Dave Marsett reports, Darryl Starks Sr. filed the suit on behalf of his son, Darryl Jr., who was a student at Adam Clayton Powell Academy Jr. Paideia Academy, 7530 S. South Shore Dr., when he was allegedly attacked last May.

The suit says the day the boy was attacked, he told teachers that another student had been harassing him and threatening him with violence.
Later that day, the other student "violently and physically" attacked the boy during gym class, the lawsuit said.
The lawsuit accuses CPS and the school principal, Derek Jordan, of failing to intervene and failing to enforce safety rules to prevent students from harassing or harming one another.
It also accuses school officials of failing to intervene after the boy told teachers about the bully's threats.
Starks' son was severely and permanently injured in the attack, and his parents have had to pay out-of-pocket for his medical and psychological treatment, the suit claims.
The suit seeks at least $100,000 in damages, plus the costs of the suit.
A CPS spokeswoman had no immediate information on the suit when contacted by the Sun-Times Media Wire Monday evening.
