Lawmakers Seek Oversight For Gov's Appointments
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM) -- The Illinois legislature wants to make the governor more accountable in making appointments to jobs and commissions.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Dave Dahl reports, state Rep. Ed Sullivan Jr. (R-Mundelein) says Gov. Pat Quinn has more or less thumbed his nose at the idea of checks and balances on appointments.

"For us to not pass this bill would be to abdicate our responsibilities of our system of government, and checks and balances," Sullivan said on the state House floor, "so I urge you all to vote for this bill. Let's get it to the governor to see what he chooses to do in regard to checks and balances on our government."
Right now, more than 500 gubernatorial appointees have served past an expiration date and need to be replaced or reappointed.
