Lawmaker Seeks State Probe Of Primary Election Glitches In McHenry County
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A state lawmaker has called for an investigation of the McHenry County Clerk's handling of Tuesday's primary elections.
Rep. David McSweeney (R-Barrington Hills) sent an email to the Illinois State Board of Elections and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, asking them to look into technical problems that prompted officials to keep McHenry County polling places open for an extra 90 minutes on Tuesday.
The clerk's office has said some electronic poll books experienced glitches.
Some voters complained they were turned away, and calls to the McHenry County Clerk's office went unanswered.

McSweeney said he's not accusing the Clerk's office of dropping the ball. He said that would be determined by an investigation.
"Nobody should be disenfranchised, and especially with a very important election. It goes to the integrity of our system, so that's why I believe a full investigation by the Illinois State Board of Elections, with a recommendation on how to ensure this never happens again, is very important," he said.
Clerk Mary McClellan apologized for the glitches, but said the integrity of the voting process was not jeopardized.
