CHICAGO (CBS) -- Winds will pick up as the day progresses, as the temperature slowly transitions from a high of 40 down to the more seasonable 30s.

On Tuesday morning, the immediate Chicago area only saw light rain, but as much as 1.1 inches of snow fell in areas to the south, including Kankakee and Bourbonnais. A chance of light sprinkles or flurries persists, but most of that system has now moved east to Indiana.

Meanwhile, CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says this is the second warmest December since 1982, with 15 days above 40 degrees through this point, compared with only seven such days in total last year.

Rest of Tuesday:
Cloudy. A chance of sprinkles or flurries. Blustery. Highs around 40. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph at times.

Tuesday Night:
Partly cloudy. Blustery. Lows in the lower 20s... except in the mid 20s downtown. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph at times in the evening decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight.

Wednesday:
Partly sunny. Highs in the mid 30s. Southwest winds around 10 mph.

Wednesday Night:
Mostly cloudy. Lows in the lower 30s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
