CHICAGO (CBS) -- It seems that we'll likely be denied a white Christmas this year, but snow is in the forecast for Thursday afternoon.
The midday temperatures in the 40s will drop as the afternoon goes on, and possible rain showers are expected to turn to snow showers around 3 to 4 p.m. as a cold front clears the area.
The snow will be slushy, and is not expected to accumulate more than about 1/2 an inch, mainly north and west of the city.

Cloudy. Chance of light snow early in the afternoon. Light snow likely late in the afternoon. Little or no snow accumulation. Highs in the upper 30s. North winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
Thursday Night:
Mostly cloudy. Light snow likely early in the evening...then a slight chance of light snow in the late evening and overnight. Little or no snow accumulation. Lows in the mid 20s...except in the upper 20s downtown. North winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 60 percent
Friday:
Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 30s. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
Friday Night:
Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 20s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
