Late Golf Club Owner's Home Furnishings Go On Sale
CHICAGO (CBS/WBBM) -- Some items are breathtaking, others just embarrassing.
But either way, the line stretched up the stairs and down the block to pick out souvenirs from the home furnishings collected by Evergreen Country Club owner Babe Ahern, who died recently at the age of 103.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's John Cody reports, the 15,000 square-foot basement at 111 W. Kinzie St. is filled with sad-faced clowns, dragons and howling elephant sculptures, as well as discount motel-quality paintings.

But not everything is campy and tacky. There is some serious stuff too, according to shopper Deborah Nadeau.
"She had a collection of mink coats, vintage clothing, and beaded – very finely beaded, sequined clothing, and the one rack is almost clear," Nadeau said. "The women are just taking them by the handfuls and grabbing those."
Babe Ahern, whose given name was Anna May Ahern, lived her whole life on the golf club property at 91st Street west of Western Avenue in Evergreen Park, the SouthtownStar reported. She died on Dec. 12, according to the Beverly Review.
Chicago Luxury Sales estimates it might collect $300,000 for the items in the basement, now through Sunday.
