Late Game Collapses Burying Blackhawks
The Blackhawks have faced plenty of adversity this season. Injuries and a new roster haven't made their title defense any easier than it would normally be.
But the Blackhawks haven't been helping themselves when they've had opportunities to come away from games with points, and last night was another example of this.
"It was an OK game," Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville said after Thursday night's game. "I know 3-3 was a huge comeback there late in the second, it was still anybody's ballgame."
Down 3-1 in the second period, the Blackhawks scored two goals period's final 30 seconds to tie the game going into the third period.
This season, the Blackhawks are a team that needs to capitalize on every opportunity for a point in the standings. They haven't dominated opponents like they did last season. So when the team enters the third period tied, the team expects to come away with at least a point.
"Disappointment ending to our recent losses over third periods when we're tied and we're looking like we're getting something out of a game and come up with errors, is one of the things we have to prevent," Quenneville said.
Currently sitting in 8th place in the Western Conference, and one point ahead of the Anaheim Ducks, the Blackhawks' Sunday opponent, it's time for the Blackhawks to start putting together complete games by the full roster.
"There's some guys that played well tonight," Quenneville said of his team's Thursday performance, "and some played so-so."
