Larry Flynt To Visit New Hustler Store In East Lakeview
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Hustler publisher Larry Flynt will be in Chicago next week, making an appearance at the new Hustler Hollywood store in the East Lakeview neighborhood.
Flynt will appear at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the new store, at 3161 N. Broadway, the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce said via Facebook.
The new store opened this month, in the space formerly occupied by Reckless Records when that store moved across the street two years ago.
The store features a mannequin display in the windows looking out onto the street, and sells adult gadgets, apparel, books and DVDs, among other products. A few non-adult products, such as copies of the 1996 Flynt biopic "The People vs. Larry Flynt" with Woody Harrelson, are also stocked.
The Web site for Hustler Hollywood describes it as "a bright, refreshing alternative to the seedy adult bookstore," and coincidentally, the store's new Chicago location opened weeks after just such a shop went out of business down the street.
Adult Fantasy at 2928 N. Broadway, an old-fashioned adult bookstore with private video viewing booths, had operated under various names since the 1970s. But earlier this summer, the store quietly closed its doors.
Other changes are also in order for the strip of Broadway just south of Belmont Avenue. An outpost of Los Angeles' Laugh Factory comedy club is set to move into the former Lakeshore Theater space at 3175 N. Broadway.
Prior published reports said a red-carpet opening had been planned for June, but was postponed. An opening date for the Laugh Factory has not been announced.
The Lakeshore Theater, a comedy performance venue laid out in an auditorium style, closed its doors in April 2010 as revenues sank. It had operated since the fall of 2002 in the space of the old Broadway Cinema movie theater, which had closed about two years earlier.
