CHICAGO (CBS) -- A CTA employee was shot near the Howard "L" terminal in Rogers Park Tuesday night.

Just before 10 p.m., Chicago police said a 51-year-old CTA employee was outside the station, at Howard and Paulina streets, when shots were fired from inside a white SUV.

The victim was shot in the chest and taken to St. Francis Hospital in serious condition.

The CTA released the following statement:

"CTA will make support services and resources available to employees affected by this latest event.

We are working closely with local law-enforcement, and assisting in whatever way we can, including reviewing, and providing any relevant security camera footage.  Further, CTA will hold those responsible to the fullest extent of the law."

All this happened less than 48 hours after four people were shot and killed while sleeping on a CTA Blue Line train early Monday morning. The victims were found at the Forest Park terminal in the western suburbs, and a suspect has been charged in that case.

There was no impact on CTA services at the station Tuesday night.
