Lane Tech Coach Investigated For Inappropriate Contact With Student
UPDATE: Following a Board investigation, Rummelhoff has been returned to teaching duties, but removed from all coaching activities. As with all CPS school staff, he has been directed to comply with Board policies in regards to communication with students.
(CBS) -- Chicago Public Schools officials and state investigators are looking into allegations that a Lane Tech teacher and coach had a sexual relationship with a female student.
CBS 2's Derrick Blakley reports the webpage for Lane Tech aquatics touts the program's success, and even though the page still lists Paul Rummelhoff as head swim coach, it appears he's not currently at the helm.
Students said it's been around two weeks since Rummelhoff, who's also a math teacher, has been seen at the sprawling North Side school. He apparently was removed by CPS management.
School officials confirm he is being investigated for alleged inappropriate conduct with a female Lane Tech student.
"The safety and well-being of our students is among our top priorities. The district has been made aware of these allegations and has contacted appropriate agencies so that this matter is fully investigated," a CPS spokeswoman said in a written statement.
Sources said the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has been notified and has launched an investigation as well.
Rummelhoff also served as an assistant baseball coach at Lane Tech. Word of these allegations is widespread at the school, especially among athletes.
