Lane Closures This Weekend On Dan Ryan Expressway
CHICAGO (STMW) -- South Siders lucky enough to attend Saturday night's Blackhawks game could find themselves locked in traffic on the outbound Dan Ryan Expressway if they wait too long to head home, the Sun-Times reports.
Starting an hour or so after the second game of the Stanley Cup Finals, two lanes of the outbound Ryan will close, on and off for several blocks to more than a mile at a stretch, between 39th and 96th Street, Illinois Department of Transportation officials said Friday.
Lane closures will affect both inbound and outbound Ryan traffic over night all weekend long. Some closures will start with one-lane shutdowns and expand to two-lanes as the evening wears on, then will be reversed gradually.
From one to two lanes in each direction will be closed:
— Friday from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday;
— Saturday from one hour after the Hawks game until noon Sunday;
— Sunday from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Monday.
The closures are necessary to accommodate CTA crews as they put equipment in place for use on the Red Line reconstruction project, IDOT officials said.
The amount of roadway closed at one time varies from day to day and from inbound versus outbound lanes. For example, Friday outbound, starting at 9 p.m., one lane will close from 31st to 37th, from 45th to 69th, and from 77th to 96th streets. At midnight, two lanes will close along those outbound stretches. By 7 am Saturday, only one lane will be closed. By 10 a.m. all lanes will be opened.
