Landscaper Fatally Shot On Southwest Side
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Four suspects attacked a landscaper during an armed robbery and fatally shot him as he was leveling soil Friday afternoon in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The incident happened about 1:45 p.m. in the 6400 block of South Talman Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Phillip Armstrong.
A spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office was notified of the death, but had no further details available.
The victim was a landscaper working in a rear yard leveling soil when he was confronted by four men wearing dark clothing and hoodies, according to News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. Police later said the victim was 18.
One of the suspects shot the man, and they all fled the scene.
"It appears this occurred during the course of an armed robbery,'' said the officer.
It was not known if anything was taken.
