Landfill Worker Killed On The Job
ZION, Ill. (STMW) - A 42-year-old Waukegan man was killed in an accident at the Veolia Environmental Services Landfill in north suburban Zion Tuesday.
Lemuel "Lee" Gonzalez was a truck driver for 21 years with Veolia. Family members said Thursday they did not want to talk yet about Gonzalez other than to say that he loved life.
Gonzalez was killed Tuesday when he was unloading dumpsters at the landfill. A cable snapped and he was trapped between two dumpsters. A fellow worker freed him and called rescue.
He is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Alicia; daughter, Aileen; and a number of siblings.
Wake services for Gonzalez will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 Cemetery Road, Gurnee. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Waukegan. Burial will be at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville.
