Lance Briggs Admits He Wanted To Punch Jay Cutler, Other Bears QBs At Times
(CBS) Former Bears Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs admitted that he wanted to punch Jay Cutler and other Bears quarterbacks at times during his 12-year playing career in Chicago.
"There have been times, yeah," Briggs said in an interview on the NFL Network when asked if he ever wanted to punch Cutler. "But there have been a lot of quarterbacks. Why didn't I do it? Out of respect."
While the entire conversation was light-hearted, Briggs added he also wanted to punch Craig Kenzel, Caleb Hanie, Rex Grossman, Kordell Stewart and Jonathan Quinn.
"Yes, I wanted to punch (Quinn) because the defense was on the field 90 plays a game (in 2004)," Briggs said with a laugh.
Briggs never wanted to punch Brian Griese or Kyle Orton, he said.
Briggs' comments came as part of a larger discussion about Jets quarterback Geno Smith being out six to 10 weeks after getting punched in the jaw by a teammate. The 34-year-old Briggs is currently a free agent, though retirement may be in the picture as well.
