Lakeview Residents On Alert After Burglars Hit Three Homes
CHICAGO (CBS) -- In just a matter of days burglars hit three homes, all in the same area in the Lakeview neighborhood.
CBS 2's Susanna Song met up with one of the victims in the 3700 block of Lakewood who says this is a huge life lesson.
It was a perfect scenario for a trio of burglars: revelers out on the town on New Year's Eve and unsecured windows.
A pack of thieves climbed through the back window of Brigid O'Keeffe's Lakeview apartment.
"My apartment is completely ransacked and all the drawers were opened and we found that all our electronics were gone," O'Keefe said.
Her brother came home just as they were running out.
"I was thankful that he wasn't hurt," O'Keefe said.
They stole two Macbooks, an iPad and Bluetooth speaker.
O'Keeffe is doing her own investigative work using the Apple Locator app and at last check, her stolen devices were in the western suburbs.
"I've contacted the police about it being turned on and I contacted the Westmont Police and told them about it was well," she said.
She thought she was alone, but they struck again the next day and the day after in the same area.
"It was not the best way to start the New Year," O'Keefe said.
Police say in the January 2 incident someone was home and as soon as the burglars broke in, they took off. Jewelry was taken in the third burglary.
Police say no one is in custody.
