Lake Shore Drive To Be Closed From Grand Avenue To McCormick Place Sunday
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An additional mile of Lake Shore Drive north all the way to Navy Pier will be closed beginning Sunday afternoon.
Lake Shore Drive is already closed in both directions between Balbo Drive and Oakwood Boulevard, to prevent traffic from getting too close to McCormick Place during the NATO Summit.
Now, the Office of Emergency Management and Communications has announced the temporary closure of Lake Shore Drive from Grand Avenue to McCormick Place, between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. Sunday.
The new closure will shut down virtually the entire downtown section of Lake Shore Drive.
As it is, just north of Balbo Drive, the southbound Drive funnels off to one lane, and at Balbo, Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation snow plows are lined up for several blocks to cut off access to the south.
Also, the Stevenson Expressway is also closed between the Dan Ryan Expressway junction and Lake Shore Drive. CBS 2's Derrick Young advises avoiding Lake Shore Drive and the Stevenson altogether.
Authorities have also closed Columbus Drive from Illinois to Wacker until further notice.
