Lake Geneva Snowmobile Race Is On Despite Summery Weather
LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (CBS) -- Believe it or not, there's a snowmobile race going on in southern Wisconsin this summery weekend.
As WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports, a YouTube video ad invites spectators to "witness the warriors of winter" at for the Nielsen Enterprises Grand Finale for the Amsoil Championship Snocross Series. The race is advertised for Friday through Sunday in Lake Geneva, Wis.
Now, Lake Geneva is a little farther north than Chicago, if it's in the 70s all week in these parts, there's no way it's going to be snowing there. The director of the race confirms you won't be finding a whole lot of snow in Lake Geneva right now.
"This is the first time ever in our history that you're able to golf about 100 yards away from snowmobile racing," said race director Carl Schubitzke. "The course is open as of today."
Schubitzke is talking about the golf course. But believe it or not, the snowmobiling course is operating too.
"We basically wrapped every single ounce of snow from everywhere on the hill, so where we are on the track is a good five feet deep," Schubitzke said.
