(WBBM) - The Lake Effect Snow machine is on again.
Snow was racing down Lake Michigan at the beginning of Tuesday morning rush hour affecting Porter County, Ind. and Berrien County in southwest Michigan, Newsradio 780's Bart Shore reports.
There have been whiteout conditions at times in Porter County.
The WBBM AccuWeather forecast for the Chicago area calls for a cold day and a Tuesday high of 20 degrees with "Real Feel" temperatures of zero to 10 below Tuesday morning but no snow until Thursday.
The National Weather Service expects lake effect snow showers to continue across Porter County Tuesday and Tuesday night with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches possible across the northeastern portion of the county Tuesday morning before Diminishing to light flurries in the afternoon.
There is a lake effect snow warning in effect through noon Tuesday for Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan and St. Joseph and Elkhart counties in Indiana.
There is a lake effect snow advisory through noon for portions of north central Indiana.
The National Weather Service reports the heaviest snow is expected across Berrien and Cass counties where an additional 1 to 4 inches will be possible through noon Tuesday.
An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow will be possible in portions of St. Joseph County, Ind. and western Elkhart County. A lake effect snow advisory is in effect for all areas generally north of us 30 and west of state road 13 in Indiana where an additional 1 to 2 inches snowfall will be possible.
Snowfall is expected to diminish Tuesday afternoon.
