Chicago drying out, but lake-effect snow persists in Northwest Indiana
CHICAGO (CBS) — Winds were taking a more northwesterly track late Monday, and thus, lake-enhanced snow showers will favor Northwest Indiana until 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Illinois was drying out Monday night, then Indiana early Tuesday morning, but regardless, still be careful of slick area roads and sidewalks with ice patches.
A Winter Weather Advisory for Cook and DuPage counties was canceled at 4 p.m., after being scheduled to run for another five hours later after that.
Despite waves of snow and freezing rain throughout the day, major traffic issues were not seen during the evening commute Monday.
But part of Chicago's Lakefront Trail was also shut down Monday because of waves and icy conditions. Barriers were up between Oak and Ohio streets.
Overnight temperatures bottom out in the teens, feeling like the single digits.
Tuesday afternoon temperatures in Chicagoland are back in the middle 20s, with the coldest day this week being Wednesday with a high of 21.
At least for the middle of the workweek, the sun returns to the forecast.
Friday, a pulse of energy could create more scattered snow showers starting in the afternoon.
