Lake County Cracking Down On Homemade Ice Rink
GURNEE, Ill. (CBS) -- A Gurnee family is ignoring a Lake County order to take down their neighborhood ice rink.
"It has been red-flagged," the rink owner, Kim Lund, tells CBS 2's Brad Edwards. "To me, it's the principle. We are not violating any ordinances. We have consulted with an attorney."
The rink, with plywood wall boundaries, covers their side-yard. The Lunds put up a similar rink last year for the kids to enjoy.
"It became a nuisance," says Barry Burton, the Lake County administrator. "And again, they'll be asked to remove it."
Burton says the rules broken include "no ice rinks in your yard" and the Lund's are now repeat offenders.
"We don't want to be a Scrooge," he says, adding, "This is in fact too large for that type of area."
"It's a neighbor issue more than anything to me," Lund says.
A neighbor said off-camera he didn't complain this year, but complains that late-night slap shots sound like a hammer pounding on his door.
The family could be fined if they don't comply.
