Lake-Cook Road Reconstruction Project To Stop For 1 Year
DEERFIELD, Ill. (CBS) -- Restaurant owners are breathing a sigh of relief along Lake-Cook road between Waukegan and the Tri-State Tollway, because Cook County has agreed to delay the project.
As WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports, the construction project has been progress since the early spring, and has made life difficult for those who have to take Lake-Cook Road between Waukegan and Wilmot roads in Deerfield and Northbrook.

The county has now agreed to a one-year delay in the $10 million, two-year project. TribLocal says most of the work this year will be over by Thanksgiving, and won't resume until 2013.
The purpose of the project is to upgrade the pavement and widen some parts of Lake-Cook Road, including the intersection with Waukegan Road and a stretch from Pine Street to the eastern edge of Pfingsten Road. It is not expected to cost any extra money to delay the project, TribLocal reported.
But Sam Marimakos, the owner of Dimitri's Greek Restaurant at 660 Lake-Cook Rd. in Deerfield, says the price of those upgrades is that the two-mile travel time from the tollway to his restaurant has increased to half an hour.
"Things look a little bit better because they say it's going to be done this week," Marimakos said. "But the damage has been done. It's going to be very hard for us to recover."
Marimakos says the delays cut business in half at his restaurant.
