Lack Of Hydrants Hampers Firefighters In Little Village Blaze
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A lack of fire hydrants left firefighters struggling with an extra-alarm blaze in the Little Village neighborhood overnight.
The fire broke out around 11:10 p.m. Monday in a warehouse used to store cars and other vehicles at 3401 S. Lawndale Ave.
Crews had to use hydrants from a couple of blocks away to fight the flames.
Firefighters had to enter defensive mode in fighting the blaze, after finding extreme heat and flames through the roof of the building when the fire spread to a fiberglass boat in one of the units, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.
No one was reported injured, Langford said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to Langford, who did not have further details early Tuesday.
