'L' Train Passengers Help Catch iPhone Robber

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Another passenger was robbed of an iPhone on the 'L' Wednesday, but this time, passengers stepped in and caught the suspect.

As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, around 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, a woman getting off a train at the Sedgwick stop on the CTA Brown Line was accosted by a teenage boy who grabbed her iPhone 4, the Chicago Tribune reported. The woman was not seriously hurt.

As the thief ran off and tried to run down the stairs to ground level, the Tribune reports several other passengers grabbed him and held him until police arrived.

The 16-year-old boy now faces a charge of strongarm robbery, the Tribune reported.

Earlier this year, a similar robbery on a Chicago Transit Authority train turned deadly.

Prince Watson, 17, is accused of robbing a woman of her iPhone on March 29, then barreling down the stairs at the Fullerton Red-Brown-Purple Line 'L' stop and knocking down Sally Katona-King, 68, in the process. Katona-King was pronounced dead soon afterward.

Watson was charged in August with first-degree murder in King's death, and is being held without bond.
