Kuc: Scott Trade Leaves Void For Hawks
(WSCR) In one of two moves the Blackhawks made before the trade deadline on Tuesday, the team sent defenseman John Scott to the Rangers for a fifth-round pick.
"It's going to be a void the Hawks will need to fill," Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune told The McNeil and Spiegel Show. "I think you'll be looking at Jamal Mayers to kind of step in and take some liberties with other players. It's kind of a surprising move. John Scott didn't get the ice time that maybe he wanted or that the Blackhawks wanted to give him, but I still think he was a deterrent and it's going to be a void they'll have to fill."

Kuc said the Blackahawks will need to replace the protection provided by Scott on a nightly basis.
"He's a very popular guy in the dressing room," Kuc said. "That goes a long way toward team chemistry. You're talking about taking out one of the guys in the locker room that everybody liked and who protected everybody on the ice. John Scott had a lot of people asking, 'Why is he on the ice?' He really was a deterrent in a lot of instance for players who were taking runs at some of the Hawks' stars."
