Kris Bryant Broke Cubs Curse By Making Amends With The Goat
CHICAGO (CBS) – 108 years of waiting came to an end Wednesday night, when the Cubs beat the Indians 8-7 in a 10-inning game.
Marked as the longest drought in sports championship history, many Cubs fans blame the years of waiting for a win on the curse of a goat. But, on Wednesday, the Chicago Cubs broke the curse and we may have Kris Bryant to thank for that.
As different versions of tale are told, in 1945 William Sianis, owner of Billy Goat Tavern, and his pet goat, Murphy, attempted to attend the Cubs-Detriot World Series Game 4. Some say they were never even let into the stadium. Others say they were kicked out after fans seated near them complained of the goat's smell. In the end, Sianis wrote a letter to the team owner declaring the Cubs would never win another World Series.
As we all know, the Cubs lost to the Detriot Tigers, and before 2016, the Cubs have not won a World Series since 1908.
In the years between 1945 and the present, people tried to remove the Cubs curse, but in 2015, Bryant may have done just that, according to Red Bull.
Just before Bryant's promotion to major league baseball, he went to 'earn forgiveness' from the goat wile in the minors in April 2015.
Bryant visited the farm where the goat was staying and spent some time with it. He fed the goat, walked it and discussed baseball with it.
According to Red Bull, when Bryant received the call to join the Cubs, he jumped on the bus to Chicago with the goat.
"This was the beginning of a friendship that eventually led to the Cubs winning their first World Series in 108 years," Redbull said.
