Konerko Suffering From 'Mild' Concussion

(CBS) The White Sox lost the game and their series to the Kansas City Royals Wednesday night, but that's probably not their biggest concern right now.
After the game, manager Robin Ventura revealed Paul Konerko is suffering from a mild concussion. The first baseman was out of the lineup Wednesday after Jarrod Dyson collided with the right side of Konerko's head during a play at first base Tuesday.
"He didn't sleep very well last night and coming in today, he didn't look too good," Ventura said.
Dyson's left elbow appeared to make contact with the right side of Konerko's head during a close play at first Tuesday night. Second baseman Gordon Beckham had ranged far to his left to make a sliding stop of Dyson's ground ball and the angle of the throw from shallow right field put Konerko's head in Dyson's running path. The first baseman whirled around after being hit and briefly held his head while looking slightly dazed. Trainer Herm Schneider came out to look at Konerko, but he stayed in the game.
Right now, the White Sox are calling it a mild concussion. He'll get reevaluated Friday after Thursday's off day and if needed, he could go on baseball's special 7-day disabled list for concussions.
"I don't know if it's there, but he does have a mild one," Ventura said. "It was more of a precaution to keep him out. In no way could he have played tonight, so just better to keep him out."
Without Konerko in the lineup Wednesday, the White Sox lost 2-1 to the Royals. They host the Oakland Athletics Friday night at U.S. Cellular Field.
