Komen Race For The Cure Dedicated To Maggie Daley
CHICAGO (CBS) -- This Mother's Day race is a tradition and many mothers and their friends and families will be here rocking pink-- to help support the battle against breast cancer.
This year's race is dedicated to Chicago's late, former First Lady of 22 years, Maggie Daley.
The late wife of former Mayor, Richard M. Daley-- Maggie was also a breast cancer fighter.
She died at the age of 68 on Thanksgiving Day, 2011-- 9 years after being diagnosed.
Maggie Daley was known for her charitable work-- instrumental in establishing an afterschool program for Chicago teens-- now known as After School Matters.
The Maggie Daley Center at Northwestern Memorial, was also named in her honor, for women fighting cancer.
The Daley family, is serving as honorary chairs of this year's race.
The Former Mayor saying his wife served as a role model for others dealing with breast cancer.
