Kitchen Joins 'Hawks Staff; Haviland Re-Signs
The Chicago Blackhawks announced today the addition of Mike Kitchen to Joel Quenneville's staff. Kitchen, who had spent the previous three seasons with the Florida Panthers, was an Assistant Coach with the St. Louis Blues from 1998-2003 when Quenneville was the Head Coach. The Newmarket, Ontario native took over for Quenneville in 2003 and lead the Blues to a playoff berth in 2004 before joining the Panthers in 2007. The hiring of Kitchen fills the void that was left when Assistant Coach John Torchetti left to take over as the Associate Coach for the Atlanta Thrasers. However, this wasn't the only news that affected the Blackhawks coaching staff today. The team also announced that Mike Haviland has re-signed as an Assistant Coach. Haviland has spent the previous five seasons coaching in the Blackhawks organization. He spent three seasons as the head coach of the AHL affiliate team in Norfolk first, and then in Rockford before joining the Blackhawks staff in 2008.
