Kenny Williams Stresses Commitment To White Sox
(CBS) Amid speculation that has linked him to the Blue Jays and Mariners, White Sox executive vice president Kenny Williams emphasized he remains committed to Chicago and that no one has approached team owner Jerry Reinsdorf seeking permission to interview him.
"I'm focused on the job at hand right here," Williams said Monday night. "If anyone every gives me another reason, if Jerry ever comes to me -- which he hasn't -- and said someone has asked for permission for X, Y or Z job, then I'll deal with that when it comes. Until that point, it's a moot conversation."
"There really isn't anything to talk about in any way, shape or form unless Jerry brings something to my attention ... Much ado about nothing."
Toronto will have a head of baseball operations job open with president Paul Beeston retiring. Last December, news broke that Reinsdorf had denied Williams permission to interview to be Beeston's successor when the Blue Jays first showed interest. Toronto had thoughts of moving on from Beeston then before he returned for one more season.
Seattle will be a possibility for Williams as well, USA Today's Bob Nightengale has reported, assuming general manager Jack Zduriencik is on his way out after another poor season.
"It's flattering when these possibility come up and you're put into the mix," Williams said.
Williams has come under scrutiny as the White Sox, after a splashy offseason, have greatly underachieved, going 58-65 and sitting 17.5 games out of first place in the AL Central.
