Robin Kelly Wins 2nd District Race
CHICAGO (CBS) — Democrat Robin Kelly won the 2nd Congressional District race, picking up 71 percent of the vote to Republican Paul McKinley's 22 percent.
Kelly easily won, as expected. One cause she campaigned on was gun control and the parents of Hadiya Pendleton joined in Kelly's celebration.
She will be sworn in Wednesday in Washington D.C. ready to lead a district that hasn't had active representation since last June, when former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. went on medical leave.
When asked how she would reach out to apathetic people in her district, Kelly responded, "I represented this district, I was a state representative, so these folks here, they know me. And they know what I will do and what I have done we will continue to reach out to everybody else.
When asked what her first priority would be, Kelly said, "Constituent services, getting my district office together and get ready to serve the public."
Kelly also told CBS 2's Dana Kozlov that jobs, access to and gun control were also top priorities but she acknowledged that challenging the NRA on Capitol Hill could be far different than doing so on a campaign.
