KC Johnson: There's Going To Be Basketball
(WSCR) NBA commissioner David Stern warned that if a deal is not in place to end the NBA lockout before Monday, the first two weeks of the regular season will be canceled.
With no meetings scheduled between now and Monday, the hope of having a complete regular season is fading, but K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune thinks there still will be basketball.
"Just when you think it looks the bleakest, that's when things get done," Johnson told The Mully and Hanley Show on Wednesday. "I'm not saying it's going to happen soon – I'm not even saying it's going to happen -- I'm just saying, if you look at the state of the negotations, a ton of progress has been made in a relatively short period of time. I think there are (still) some significant differences and I do think the first two weeks of the regular season will get canceled, at least. But I gotta believe at some point there's going to be some basketball this season."

If the lockout persists into the regular season, superstars such as Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade and Derrick Rose have threatened to play overseas until the NBA resumes. While Johnson admits that some of those threats are bluffs, Rose would be one of the few inclined to play overseas.
"I do think Derrick would, but a lot would have to happen," he said. "First of all, (the lockout) would have to last most, if not all, of the season. Then, obviously insurance would have to be in place and things like that. He does have one concrete offer from an undisclosed team. … Derrick is just somebody who just wants to play basketball."
