Kaneland Vocational Instructor Charged With Having Sex With Teen
(STMW) -- A man who works as a vocational instructor for a west suburban high school district has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student.
Glen C. Baum, 42, is charged with nine counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of child pornography, all felonies, according to the Kane County state's attorney's office.
Between May 2014 and January 2015, Baum had a sexual relationship with one of his 17-year-old students, a statement from prosecutors claims. Authorities became aware of the relationship when the victim's mother saw messages from Baum on the girl's cell phone and called police.
Baum instructed high school students in fire science through a vocational career training program at Kaneland Unit District 302 in Maple Park, according to the statement.
Baum, of the 5000 block of Heritage Drive in Oswego, was ordered held on a $250,000 bond Thursday, according to the statement. If he posts bail, he will not be allowed to have contact with the victim or anyone under 18, or have Internet access.
He is next scheduled to appear in court Feb. 11.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Brian McCarty at (630) 208-5353.
