Kane County Recruiting Male Mentors For Foster Kids
(CBS) -- West of Chicago, the group guiding wards of the state welcomes all volunteers but is in special need of men, reports WBBM's John Cody.
CASA is the court appointed group of guardians who keep track of kids in foster care.
"Most of our cases involve parental substance abuse. Sometimes it is also mental illness. The parent loves their child, they are just not capable of parenting them in a healthy manner, then maybe the child could be with a relative and still have a relationship with their parent," said Debra McQuaid.

McQuaid trains the court appointed special advocates or CASAs for Kane County where half the kids in foster care are male, but only 23 percent of the casa volunteers are men.
She's organized recruitment meetings starting this Wednesday in an effort to provide more male mentors for boys needing guidance.
