Kane County May Allow Residents To Switch From ComEd
GENEVA, Ill. (CBS) -- The people who live in unincorporated areas of Kane County may get the chance to opt out of getting their electrical service from ComEd.
As WBBM Newsradio's David Roe reports, if the Kane County Board approves, voters would see a referendum on their ballots next spring on whether to allow the county to act as a bulk purchaser on their behalf, the Daily Herald reported.

The theory is that the county could negotiate a lower rate than what ComEd charges.
Proponents of the switch say savings could run between $120 and $150 a year for residential customers, the newspaper reported.
But the Daily Herald reports some County Board members are calling for a closer look on the company that is trying to sell them on the switch.
That company, Progressive Energy Group, would receive a commission from whatever power company the County Board chooses as an alternative to ComEd, the Daily Herald reported.
