Kane County Board Might Cut 2 Seats

GENEVA, Ill. (WBBM) -- The Kane County Board is expected to decide on a proposal to reduce that body by two members, and one commissioner believes it will be a close vote.

As WBBM Newsradio 780 Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports, the Kane County Redistricting Task Force is considering a cut of two members, although some want to cut four.

At one point, the task force was considering the idea of reducing the 26-member board down to 18, but that plan was quickly tabled.

County Board Commissioner Jim Mitchell is against any cuts. He says Kane is a diverse county, and the board reflects that diversity.

"A lot of people talk about less government, but what they mean by less government are lower taxes and less regulation, not so much less representation," Mitchell said.

Mitchell is not running for reelection, so if any seats are cut, his is likely to be one of them.
