Lawyer Guilty Of Killing Ex-Chicago Bull Eddy Curry's Ex-Girlfriend, Daughter
CHICAGO (STMW) -- The Sun-Times is reporting: After four hours of deliberations, a Cook County jury found a 40-year-old lawyer guilty Tuesday of killing the ex-girlfriend of former Chicago Bull Eddy Curry and his 10-month-old daughter.
Fredrick D. Goings, who was hired by Nova Henry in a child support case against Curry, allegedly shot the 24-year-old woman in her South Loop condo while she held her daughter, Ava, on Jan. 24, 2009, Cook County prosecutors said.
Goings had an on-and-off romantic relationship with Henry but allegedly grew incensed when he learned that she had hired another lawyer and was planning to fight paying him off $24,000 in attorney's fees.
Goings fled to Indiana after gunning down the mother and daughter in the first block of West 15th Street, prosecutors said.
A hotel worker at a Michigan City, Ind. Comfort Inn testified last week that Goings was in a rush to do his laundry at a late hour. And police said they saw Goings in the hotel pool, furiously cleaning his nails in an apparent attempt to wash off evidence, prosecutors said.
Curry and Henry's 3-year-old son, Noah, also was at the condo at the time of the shootings but was unharmed.
When Noah's grandmother found him home alone with the bodies of his slain infant sister and mother, the boy allegedly told her who pulled the trigger.
"Fredrick did it," Yolan Henry said Noah told her.
Then the boy "put his finger to his lips and said, 'Sh-h-h," Yoland Henry testified last week.
Curry, who now plays for a basketball team in China, did not testify at the trial.
Defense attorneys have maintained Goings' innocence, saying no physical evidence ties him to the double murders.
Tuesday, President Abraham Lincoln's Birthday, is a court holiday. But Judge Maura Slattery Boyle wanted to forge ahead with deliberations.
