Jorge Soler's Defensive Gaffe Didn't Cost The Cubs, But It Produced Quite The Image
(CBS) Cubs right fielder Jorge Soler made a defensive gaffe in a 5-2 loss to the Mets in Game 3 of the NLCS on Tuesday, diving for a sinking line drive in the sixth inning off the bat of Wilmer Flores with a runner at first base and two outs and coming up short, allowing it to get to the wall.
What should've been an easy Flores triple and Mets run turned into a second-and-third situation when the ball nestled into the ivy, producing a ground-rule double. Jacob deGrom followed by flying out, so Soler's miscue didn't prove to hurt the Cubs.
But it did produce an image that might by symbolic of the Cubs' play in this series, which they trail 3-0.
Chicago will try to stay alive Wednesday night as Wrigley Field in Game 4. The Cubs will start Jason Hammel, while the Mets will start Steven Matz.
