Joliet Man Hit By Squad Car Dies From Injuries
NEW LENOX, Ill. (STMW) -- A 30-year-old man died Saturday from injuries he suffered being hit by a Will County Sheriff's squad car Wednesday night in southwest suburban New Lenox.
Andrew L. May of Joliet had been on life support at Silver Cross Hospital since shortly after the accident occurred about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the accident occurred as a deputy was on patrol heading south on Briggs Street near Elgin Avenue in Joliet Township. There are sidewalks on both sides of the street, but police said May was in the roadway "about 4 or 5 feet from the shoulder" when he was struck by the deputy.
The deputy was not injured or identified but has been placed on administrative leave, police said.
May remained hospitalized until he was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
The crash still is under investigation.
