John Fox Wants More Clarity On Reversed Call That Awarded Golden Tate A TD
(CBS) In his postgame press conference Sunday after a 37-34 overtime loss to the Lions, Bears coach John Fox didn't comment much on a replay review overturning what had been a Chicago interception and awarding Detroit a touchdown late in the first half when it was ruled that receiver Golden Tate did demonstrate possession of the football across the goal line just before bobbling it.
"We're not allowed to talk about officials," Fox said then.
On Monday morning, Fox shed a little more light in an interview on WBBM 780 Newsradio, saying he wants to further follow up on the perplexing call.
"Yeah," Fox said when asked if the Bears deserved more explanation on the play. "There's a lot of things we have to fix, and that's one of them.
"It had something to do with being upright, but I'll get into some other conversations on that here sometime today."
Fox still didn't blame that call for the loss in any way, and he wasn't in the mood to talk about his strategical choices, which included a conservative third-down run call with a chance to seal the game with about two-and-a-half minutes left and some questionable late-game clock management.
"All three phases had their hand in it, just like all games," Fox said. "Second-guessing is pretty easy, but the reality is we didn't play good enough to win."
