John Fox: Bears' Kevin White's Leg Is 'Healed'

By Chris Emma--

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (CBS) -- A 2015 debut for Bears rookie receiver Kevin White may be in the realm.

On Monday, the day after the Bears' 26-20 overtime loss to the 49ers, coach John Fox offered an encouraging update on White's status for the season.

"I think his leg is healed," Fox said of White. "But now it's a matter of getting him to football shape."

The seventh overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, White suffered a stress fracture in his left shin prior to training camp. He finally took the field for the first time since OTAs two weeks ago, when the Bears opted to open his three-week practice window. They have until Dec. 15 to decide whether White will return or be shut down for the final weeks of the season.

Prior to Sunday's game at Soldier Field, White was participating in warmups, running receiving routes, making sharp cuts and elevating for catches. He seemed to be moving well and comfortable with his body.

During practice the past week, White was active in drills while showing similar comfort. The final step is taking the field for a game, whether that's this season or next.

"We'll evaluate that," Fox said. "We have medical people that will deal with him every day and will continue to bring the football playing element back into it. If he's cleared to play football, he'll be out there. If he's not, he won't."
