Job Club Looks To Help Unemployed
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Every week at the library in Sycamore, those without jobs get together every week: Their goal is to not be a member of the club.
Founder John Latus lets newcomers vent during the first meeting, and then it's time to get to work--finding a job.

Some 55 job seekers have come through the Sycamore Job Club since February, and 15 have found work after spending an afternoon a week networking and getting employment tips from fellow members.
Latus underscores two simple but significant job-seeking tips: clean up the resume, particularly the spelling, and then treat the job hunt as a full-time job. It will require that much work, he says.
Latus has been out of work for a year and believes he will be getting a new position as an industrial manufacturing director. He just doesn't know when.
The group includes unemployed with backgrounds in accounting, manufacturing, finance and printing.
They share job leads, tips on getting job interviews and resume polishing.
Latus says his group brings in human resource administrators from local businesses, government employment specialists, and employment agencies in the area of DeKalb County.
Latus says he helps club members tune up their resumes, and stresses the advantages of hiring older workers: experience, flexibility, and no worries about time off to tend to sick kids.
