Jewel Osco Recalls Signature Farms Garden Salad Due To Cyclospora Outbreak
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Jewel-Osco now has a voluntary recall on bagged garden salad due to possible cyclospora contamination after multiple people have been made sick.
The company is pulling the Signature Farms brand of 12 ounce bags from store shelves in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa.
These bags all have a "best if used by" date between May 16 and July 4, which is printed in the upper right corner on the front of the package.
There have been 23 cases of illness reported in Illinois because of the outbreak.
Jewel-Osco is asking people who bought the salad to either throw it out of bring it to a store for a refund.
Officials say the recall also affects stores Aldi and Hy-Vee.
Symptoms of cyclospora include diarrhea, loss of appetite and low grade fever. The illness can last months if not treated with antibiotics.
Officials urge anyone who has eaten this brand of bagged salad and is experience symptoms to get tested.
