Jet Passengers Sent Down Emergency Chutes At O'Hare
(CBS) – Passengers aboard a flight from Washington, D.C. were sent down emergency-evacuation chutes after their jet landed Monday at O'Hare Airport amid concerns there was something wrong with the plane.
American Airlines says the crew of Flight 4309 noticed a flight-deck instrument warning of a "possible issue" on the aircraft. The captain ordered an emergency evacuation "out of an abundance of caution," the airline tells WBBM.
A passenger tells CBS 2 the travelers were about to deplane at the gate when they heard someone urgently say, "Evacuate!" Many of them were without coats as they went down the chutes, and cold became an issue.
All 57 passengers and four crew members were safely moved off the Embraer E-175. The flight, which landed shortly before 5 p.m., was operating under the American Eagle banner.
