Ex-US Attorney General Jeff Sessions To Speak In Chicago
CHICAGO (AP) -- Former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is scheduled to deliver a speech in Chicago on violence in the nation's third largest city.
Sessions is listed as keynote speaker for an annual awards dinner Wednesday evening at the Chicago Crime Commission, a private group advocating for effective crime-fighting laws.
As attorney general, Sessions regularly echoed President Donald Trump in asserting Chicago wasn't fighting violent crime the right way. He also criticized a plan to reform city police under court supervision, saying it would tie officers' hands and make crime worse.
City officials have said Trump and Sessions got data on crime in Chicago wrong and misstated the underlying causes of city violence.
Sessions left the attorney general's office earlier this month after the White House asked for his resignation.
