Japan-Bound Flight Returns To O'Hare With Ill Passenger, Who Later Dies
(STMW) -- An airliner bound for Japan returned to O'Hare International Airport on Sunday after an elderly man became ill—and later died at a North Side hospital.
Japan Airlines Flight 0009, bound for Tokyo, departed O'Hare about 1:45 p.m. and returned about 3:46 p.m. after a passenger became seriously ill, airline spokeswoman Carol Anderson said.
The 81-year-old man, whose identity was not immediately being released, was taken to Resurrection Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The plane then refueled and left again for Japan about 5:40 p.m., Anderson said.
