Car Crashes Into Jane Stenson Elementary School In Skokie After Shooting
SKOKIE, Ill. (CBS) -- One person was injured early Wednesday, when someone in an SUV involved in a carjacking attempt in north suburban Lincolnwood opened fire on another car in nearby Skokie, causing the victims to crash into an elementary school.
Skokie police said, shortly before 3 a.m., a white Audi SUV and a silver Honda passenger were speeding north on Lockwood Avenue near Dempster Street, and officers had been notified the Audi had been involved in an earlier carjacking attempt in Lincolnwood.
Officers headed north on Lockwood Avenue, and a short time later saw that the Honda had crashed into Jane Stenson School a few blocks away at 9201 Lockwood Avenue.
Police said someone inside the Audi had fired shots at the Honda, before fleeing south on Lockwood Avenue. Officers were unable to find the Audi after it fled the scene.
Four people who were in the Honda ran off after the crash, but police found them a short time later. One person was taken to NorthShore Skokie Hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound.
Police said they believe the incident stemmed from a dispute that started outside of Skokie, and the case remained under investigation Wednesday afternoon.
Based on information received to this point, Skokie Police believe this incident resulted from a dispute that originated outside of Skokie. This remains an active and ongoing investigation and currently there no one is in custody.
