Jackson Pitches 2 Scoreless Innings In Debut With Cubs
MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- Edwin Jackson pitched two scoreless innings in his first outing with the Cubs, and Chicago beat the Colorado Rockies 4-2 Tuesday.
Jackson signed a four-year, $52 million contract this winter. He gave up consecutive singles to start the game but finished by retiring four in a row.
Chicago outfielder Dave Sappelt, in the running for a backup job, homered leading off the sixth among his two hits.
Third baseman Christian Villanueva also homered for the Cubs, in the third.
Rockies right-hander Jhoulys Chacin retired all six batters he faced He struck out one.
Chacin was bothered by a bruised left foot that required the trainer to stop play and check on him during the second inning. But he was able to finish his scheduled two innings without further issue.
Chacin hurt the foot during pitchers fielding practice Friday.
